Rowayton
Rowayton is a village on the coast of Norwalk. It is a very wealthy community ranked in the top three most expensive places to live in Connecticut. The community is made up of about 4,000 residents pact together in this tiny peninsula. One resident said that it is impossible to walk anywhere here with out bumping to a neighbor. To some this sounds dreadful, but to the residents of this small coastal village that is why they moved there. A couple that had rented a house there for vacation for the family fell in love with the friendly neighborhood. Time is spent outside enjoying the water on boats, skiing, fishing, or talking walks around the park.
The village has its own civic association and puts on annual events for the whole community, all are encouraged to come. The comradery of this small community is something many families try to find kids play in the yard, going to parties with the same people, and enjoying the beautiful sunset every night. Though the housing market was tough ten years ago houses still went cost half a million to several million dollars, residents are thankful that not many people have moved here in the recent years they admire the unchanged landscape. A longtime resident said that we pay more than what their house is worth, the over pricing deters people form moving here and building houses.
The residents realize that when they moved to their new community they were buying a new lift style, one they thoroughly enjoy. Other residents that are apart of the civic association are trying to restore the community by to improve the community. A part time resident that has lived in the community bought a house across from the peninsula and opened a general store so that residents of Rowayton don’t have to drive into the city to pick up food and essentials. Everyone is think about how everyone else is feeling or how to develop the community is a way where the all the residents benefit, even if its opening a grocery store where you pick up groceries by boat. The community is very united when it comes to the land with in the peninsula.
A couple tried to purchase a plot of land to build a house, when the community found out that they were trying to buy land that was considered “wild” or untouched the residents massed together posting all over social media to prevent the deal, wrote petitions to the land trust commission. Those that placed bids to do the construction pulled their bids out of respect the communities unity. Rowayton is an expensive place to live and taxes are higher in this area, but there is a sense of community that we seldom see anywhere in the Connecticut. To simply put it this not a town or apart of a city Rowayton is a village that embodies strong values.
